The Blackball Connection

The Blackball Connection

Paparoa Track Services are very excited to announce they are commencing the build of a new base in Blackball. Their shuttle and relocations service has been a great success over the last 3 years, helping trampers and bikers complete the track in the ways that best suit them.

“We see the new build as the next pivotal step as we anticipate increasing popularity of the track as well as the opening of the much awaited Pike 29 Memorial track,” Director Craig Findlay explains. “The Pike 29 Memorial Track will be part of the Paparoa track connecting the Paparoa with the Pike River Mine site, holding a lot of meaning for West Coasters and those completing the trail.”

We purchased the Blackball section in 2021, seeing an opportunity and here we are two years later with the property all tidied up, ready to build. The building will consist of a large double bay shed to park our bus and trailer and will serve as an important connection between the Blackball and Punakaiki sides of the track.”

The Pike 29 Memorial track will be significant for Blackball as hikers and bikers will not only start in Blackball but also finish very close to Blackball, whereas both Punakaiki and Blackball share the trail ends of the current Paparoa Track. The Paparoa Track Services team figured it was a great opportunity to continue the development of Trail Tourism in Blackball.

Further details to come on services offered to those completing the Pike 29 Memorial Track will be made available on the Paparoa Track Services website.
